Introduction

PLC Shift allows you to extend the functionality of your programmable logic controllers (PLCs) via configurable applications. Applications integrate with your existing automation.

With PLC Shift, you can

  • Replace custom PLC code with standardized, configurable applications.
  • Reduce system development time.
  • Increase reliability.
  • Reduce complexity.
  • Scale your system in a standard, repeatable way.
  • Optimize the process.
  • Increase production.
  • Lower costs.
  • Easily export data directly to the cloud.
  • Bypass SCADA and other operational systems, reducing integration costs.
  • Simplify reporting and dashboards.
  • Make high resolution operational data available to the enterprise.

PLC Shift consists of two parts: A configuration and management program, and an application runtime. The configuration and management piece, PLC Shift Manager, runs on Windows. This program is used to create, deploy, test, and otherwise manage applications.

Applications execute on industrial computers that run the Linux operating system. Applications are deployed to these industrial computers using PLC Shift Manager, which is a Windows program. Once deployed, applications constantly trade tag data with the PLC. The PLC is connected to hard IO, SCADA, local HMIs and other systems. In this way, the PLC always has complete control over what the application is doing.
